What do y'all think of Monica's post to Law-Lib?
IMHO...
I feel that as professional Librarians, we are here to help and it really
doesn't matter if the information is needed by another librarian or a member
of the public. This is the reason why I do this in the first place, and I
feel good when I can use my knowledge and experience to help someone find the
information that they need. I also often feel much more appreciated.
Perhaps your gripe is that you don't wish to deal with mailings from
non-librarians in this particular forum. My reply is - Who better to ask
than one of us, and what better forum than this one where one simple post can
get the attention of at least two or three good people who may be able to
help?
This is not intended as a flame to you Eric, and I hope you do not take it
that way. It is your choice not to answer any post that you do not have the
time or inclination to answer, but is also the choice of others to extend
help when it is requested. I don't feel like there is anything being shared
in this forum that should be beyond the eyes of the patrons. Besides, this
is the 'Net and the information is free if you know where to look. Maybe a
better idea would be a LISP-type list for these types of posts where people
who don't mind this type of questioning can offer their assistance.
If I have misunderstood anything, I apologize. This is only my .02 worth and
I look forward to others' opinions on this subject.
