We are looking for copies of library safety policies that govern the closing
of public or employee areas of the library during extreme heat (or cold - but
who can imagine that) conditions. These policies might include references to
State or local laws, labor union contract provisions, epa pollution counts,
etc. // While our Reading Room (where Circ and Ref are) has been in the
range of 88-94 degrees this past 2 weeks, our upper level stacks are well
above 96 degrees. Our patrons and staff have been willing to brave the
stacks, but we are uneasy about allowing them to continue doing so. Perhaps
regularly scheduled search teams looking for fallen bodies gasping for water
is enough? Send responses to me (at lorr@yalevm.cis.yale.edu) or to Fred
Shapiro (at shapiro@minerva.cis.yale.edu). Many, many, sweaty thanks. Laura Or
