The Circuit Court Law Library in which I work is expanding its CD-ROM
capability. Currently, the library has 50 CD'S in its collection. We
presently have one public access stand alone PC with an external CD-ROM drive.
Additionally, both full-time librarians have internal CD-ROM drives in the PC's
..
The current plan is to expand the number of public access PCs with CD-ROM
capability to 4. Further, the 16 Court Judges and 4 auxillery offices are to be
provided with PCs in order for them to access the library's CD collection.
Court Administration has suggested (already determined) the library shall have
two- 7(cd) towers . I am to determine which of the 14CD's out of the 50CD's
are to be placed on the network.
The main server will be physically located in the law library.
I am most anxious to hear what experience you have had (good, bad, or
indifferent) with CD-ROM towers,"jukeboxes",etc... As well as your experience
with different networks(Novell, Lantastic etc..). I am especially interested in
"LOGICRAFT" ?(sp).
Do you have any recommendations regarding the optimal size of the system,
specific equipment to purchase or avoid, and so forth? Most importantly I am
interested in anyone who has maintained this operation with a limited staff such
as mine- 2 full-time and 2 part-time( not working the same shifts).
What problems you have encountered in reference to Judges--Attorneys --
Students-- and Public/ProSe patrons. All of which frequent this library.
Our budget is limited ! We want a system that will work efficiently and with a
minimal amount of technical difficulties. The technical expertise of the staff
is limited and there is no funds to hire a system manager.
