As a last minute perk, the Carnegie public library, the second
oldest public library buiding in the country will opened to tours from
8:00 until 9:3 in conjunction with the Opening Reception. Tours are
limited, so sign up quickly in the hall of archetucture (follow the signs).
The library has recently unergone a complete renovation retuning
it to the orginal Victorian style. Part of the tour will show the
complications of converting a Victorian library to a modern one without
disrupting the original while preserving the original environment. Also,
special detail will be paid to the restoration of the original murals
found on the second floor.
The tour will include the children's library, social sciences,
reference, the Pennsylvania room, the mucic and art department, and a
tour of the stacks, with their unique glass floors (this allowed greater
light and ventalation at the turn of the century). Also, the rare book
room may be on tour, this has yet to be determined.
Don't let this chance pass you by.
