Head Catalogers' Roundtable at AALL will be on Monday, July 17th,
1995 from 7:00 am to 8:30 am. This year we have got a speaker,
Jolande Goldberg of the Library of Congress, who is well known
to Law Catalogers.
Jolande will demonstrate the Cataloger's Desktop and the LC
Classification and Subject Headings on CD-ROM, an electronic
reference product that uses the same Windows based FolioVIEWS
search interface and retrieval software used for Cataloger's
Desktop. LCC and LCSH links will be created by computer form data
elements within the source records.
Jolande will also showcase her JZ (International Relations), and KZ
(Law of Nations) schedules, which replace the JX (International
Law) schedule.
In addition to this, Richard Amelung of St. Louis University Law
Library, Missouri, has agreed to talk to us about Law Libraries'
participation in the LC's cooperative program, NACO. Richard got
his NACO training from Library of Congress to train other
participants in this program.
You might have noticed that this year we are given 30 minutes
extra. In fact we didn't request that extra time. Because, in
the past years, our request for extra time was never granted.
With that extra time we will be able to discuss topics like,
internet cataloging, and the impact of format integration on our
workflow.
This is an exciting and challenging year for catalogers involved
with internet cataloging, as OCLC started the project of "Building
a Catalog of Internet Resources". From the Intercat and Autocat
lists, it is obvious that catalogers are very enthusiastic about
bringing internet, the fastest growing medium, under control. Law
Catalogers involved with this, please come prepared to share your
ideas and concerns.
Please revise your cataloging activities summary for the past year
and send it to me, preferably by regular U.S. mail. They will be
distributed among our colleagues, so that we all can learn from
each other.
