This post follows my post to the Trinet discussion group of professionals in
the fields of tourism and hospitality. Dimitrios Buhalis added to the list of
sources I shared about Intermediaries with the citation listed below to a
publication of his own that is about this subject and is newly published.
Dimitrios Buhalis is a very prolific author in these subject fields and I used
this opportunity to compare results from tourism and business databases with
those found by Google Scholar and Google Books in a response to his post sent
to Trinet. That post, a citation to his publication and a link to my original
post follow.

RE: Intermediaries (fwd)
This post from Dimitrios Buhalis led me to an interesting idea about finding
information regarding tourism as well as being applicable to other fields. In
the course of my work, I have heard much from professionals in academic and
research roles that is critical of Google as a research tool.
These folks may view Google categorically as one entity. I did not create the
ongoing sage of Meet the Googles because I agree with these views. I do know
that Dimitrios Buhalis has published very extensively, so I searched his name
in a collection of EBSCO databases.

of citations found from this leased group of databases is 270.
Now here is the Google Scholar result:

But the plot thickens.
Here are the first ten citations from the Google Scholar search results.

Please note the cited by hyperlink at the bottom of each entry. Each number
here represents one source that has cited the work in that entry by Dimitrios
Buhalis. For just these top of the deck ten works of almost one hundred more
found in a free database available to the whole world of internet users than
those found through fee based EBSCO, there is a substantial body of works that
cite those of and about Dimitrios Buhalis. For just these ten works there are
added a group of 1,320 works that are more recent than the works cited by or
about Dimitrios Buhalis that presumably have something to do with the topics he
was writing about, and this is just the first ten of the over 300 works Google
Scholar finds of this authors work or works mentioning his name and work. If
one then performs the same search in Google Books, one finds an additional 181
works by or about this author. Do keep in mind that finding his name in either
EBSCO or in the Google databases does not mean that Dimitrios Buhalis is the
author of all of the sources, in some he may be mentioned in the abstact or
other indexed content in the databases finding his name.
Please do not conclude that I am recommending Google Scholar and Book searches
instead of the use of databases like those cited above. Each may have content
the other lacks. I am, however, asserting that one can ill afford, in my
opinion, to ignore Google Scholar, Google Books, Google Government, Google
Images, Google Blogs and Google News Archive in their searching if they are
seeking quality and thorough search results.
