    Law-Lib,

How does your Library respond to prisoner requests (prisoner mail) for legal research help? Do you have standard response letters you send? Maybe these documents describe your services and limits (e.g., "the entire UCC is too large to send to you")? Maybe they provide titles of legal research books the prisoner might want to buy? Do you send "information packets" on prisoner resources (e.g., Prisoner Resource Guide from ACLU of Texas or the Jailhouse Lawyer's Handbook)?

We are creating a wiki for law librarians to share these documents. We will explore the wiki and discuss the linked documents at the Joint Roundtable on Library Services to Pro Se Patrons and Prisoners at AALL (Monday July 27th 12pm-1:15pm in Renaissance Congressional Hall A). We'll also have a discussion of services to Pro Se Patrons, including the Self Represented Litigation Network (Marcus Hochstetler) and Equal Justice Conference (Larry Meyer). And we're providing refreshments!

Please send electronic copies of your prisoner mail documents that you are willing to share (by July 15th) to either Amy Hale-Janeke (Amy_Hale-Janeke@ca5.uscourts.gov) or Ann Hemmens (hemmens@u.washington.edu).

Guidelines for submitting prisoner mail documents:

    (1) Format: please submit the documents in either WORD or PDF format.
    (2) Privacy: since the goal is to post these documents in a public space, please remove any personal information about the requesting prisoner as well as any other personal information.
    (3) Amy or Ann will review the documents and post them to the wiki (which will remain private until AALL).

Thanks, in advance, for contributing to this project. If you have questions, please let us know.

    Ann and Amy
