APPOINTMENT: 12 month full-time contract
SALARY: $44,000 to negotiable, commensurate with experience

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Barry University School of Law Library in Orlando is looking for a full-time Acquisitions/Catalog Librarian to manage and participate in the acquisitions, cataloging and authority control operations of the School of Law Library, and to assist with collection development activities for the School of Law Library. The Acquisitions/Catalog Librarian reports to the Head of Technical Services, serves as part of the Technical Services management team, and functions as acting department head in the absence of the Head of Technical Services. This is a full-time tenure track position with professorial rank.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Responsible for oversight of acquisitions, cataloging, and authority control activities in the Technical Services Department. Serves as part of the department's management team, including assisting with the management of departmental staff and with development and application of policies, procedures and workflows within the Technical Services Department. Functions as assistant department head in absence of Head of Technical Services. Prepares statistical reports and analyses. Periodically reviews and evaluates current policies and procedures relating to areas of responsibility and develops or updates policy and procedures as needed.
* Responsible for ordering, receiving, and making payment for library materials using Innovative Millennium system and the campus' AIS purchase order and check requests systems. Assists department head in the preparation, monitoring and tracking of the library acquisitions budget. On routine basis, prepares updated financial reports and presents data to the Head of Technical Services, the Associate Dean for Information Services, and other library managers. Resolves payment, subscription, and vendor problems related to acquisitions. Serves as contact for vendors and publishers related to the library's subscriptions and accounts. Ensures that all electronic, serial and continuations subscriptions are renewed promptly and that all issues are received. Maintains current vendor contact information in all relevant databases. Manages library's United Nations' depository account.
* Using current national and local standards, performs original and complex copy cataloging and classification of library materials in all formats, using appropriate documentation and resources. Maintains authority control for Barry University's online catalog (BLISSweb). Performs database maintenance and ensures quality control of bibliographic records. Maintains awareness of current and emerging standards in cataloging (such as RDA and FRBR), and oversees local implementation of changes in national standards, rules and best practices for cataloging. Plan, implement and oversee the outsourcing of selected cataloging and authority control to outside, commercial vendors.
* Assists with managing and developing the law library's collections. Works closely with the library faculty and teaching faculty to establish and execute ongoing collection review, including the routine analysis of collection needs. Assists with regular reassessment of library's approval plan profiles. Assists with updating and regular review of the library's Collection Development Policy. Identifies collection management projects including weeding and donations.
* Engages in original research, publishing and other activities, to meet criteria outlined in campus promotion and tenure guidelines.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Assists Head of Technical Services with administration of electronic journal portal and with electronic resources management, as required.
* Participates in the development and maintenance of departmental web pages, and assists with library web pages, blogs, etc. using web and blog design standards and Web 2.0 technologies.
* Serves the law school by participating in school-wide activities, and serves the library by actively participating on the local, regional, or national level in associations, conferences, continuing education programs, and other professional development activities.
* Performs any additional duties as assigned or required by the Head of Technical Services and/or the Associate Dean for Information Services.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:
* Requires ALA-accredited Master's degree in library and information science, with completed degree at time of hire.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
* Knowledge of overall technical services operation, policies and procedures, including how functions interrelate both within the Technical Services Department and within the library as a whole.
* Strong organizational and time management skills. Must possess excellent project management, analytical and problem solving skills, with an aptitude for complex and detailed work.
* Ability to work well independently and as a team member and must be able to quickly adapt to changing priorities. Must be able to work collegially with library personnel and with other university faculty, staff and students.
* Excellent interpersonal skills, verbal and written communication skills, and possess ability to follow and give clear instructions.
* Exhibit good judgment and ability to make appropriate decisions.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
* Requires 3 or more years of professional librarian experience in each major areas of responsibility, including: acquisitions, authority control, and original / complex copy cataloging.
* Requires 2 or more years supervisory/management experience, supervising library clerical staff and/or professional librarians.
* Requires ability to meet the requirements of publishing, research and service required to achieve tenure. Full-time tenure track position with professorial rank. Rank and title is based upon education and experience.
* Requires significant experience with OCLC Connexion client and with either Innovative's Millennium ILS or other computerized integrated library management systems.
* Knowledge of all current cataloging standards and practices in the areas of cataloging and authority control, including, but not limited to: MARC 21 formats, LCRI, AACR2rev., Library of Congress Classification, Library of Congress Subject Heading List, LC Cataloger's Desktop and Classification Web, CONSER, NACO and SACO standards, and other relevant resources.
* Requires basic computer skills and proficiency with standard library and office equipment, and knowledge of standard office software, including Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
* Position holder must be able to perform all duties listed, which involve shelving books, pushing full book carts, communicating with library and campus staff, faculty and students, answering telephones, reading filing instructions and call numbers, reading and handling employee paperwork, bending and lifting in accessing materials throughout the Law Library, and utilizing computer display, keyboard and mouse for extended periods of time with repetitive motions. Possibility of exposure to elevated levels of dust from books and other printed materials.
Preferred:
* Prefer one or more years of collection development experience.
* Prefer previous experience in a technical services operation in an academic, special, research, or law library setting.
* Experience with outsourcing cataloging and/or authority control records a plus.
* Working knowledge of Web 2.0 technologies (e.g., blogs, wikis, social networking, etc.) a plus.
* Knowledge of HMTL, Microsoft Power Point, Microsoft Access, and/or Microsoft Visio also a plus.
