I've been expecting someone to point this out - quite a flurry of
    requests for a single vendor's products. If I were Law360, I'd
certainly take notice. And their response should not be a heavy-handed
copyright threat, rather, it should be to revise their pricing
    structure!

I recently checked on pricing of individual practice area emails, and,
unless I'm being given incorrect information, they have one price for
law firms over 50 attorneys. This means that my firm, which has around
100 attorneys, would pay the same price for firmwide access as a DLA
Piper, or a Baker & McKenzie (3000+ attorneys). The four-figure price
might be a good deal for big firms, not so much for us.

Law360 targets their daily emails to specific practice groups, and that
is how they should price them. Until that happens, my attorneys are
happy to receive the free email summaries, and contact the library when
they need additional information on a story.

    Opinions are my own, naturally.

    Jeff

Subject: [LAW-LIB:59401] Thoughts on 360 articles

There's been a spate of postings requesting copies of Law360 articles
on law-lib lately. Our firm looked at these e-newsletters awhile ago
and concluded the subscriptions were too expensive. Occasionally I will
get a request from an attorney who gets the summaries.

First, I wonder if people are checking the authors' law firm websites
for copies of the articles - I've found a number of them that way.

Secondly, I wonder how long it will be before the 360 publishers will
pick up on this trend of librarians regularly requesting copies of their
articles and raise copyright violation objections.

    I'm just saying...

(hoping not too many people are on vacation and my email doesn't get
jammed with out of office messages...)
