Mariann,
I am not the original poster but I have had my own interaction with Lexis this week on the security check issue. What you may have missed, or are perhaps unaware of, is that the LexisNexis security letter/process required me to provide them with my personally identifiable information. As the administrator of the account they requested my home address and telephone number, my SSN and my driver's license number. That is something that I strenuously object to. I was willing to provide them with my business contact information, but I could see no legitimate reason for them to have access to my home contact info, nor my SSN or driver's license number. It's not an issue of inconvenience, it's a matter of overly intrusive and questionable security measures.
And since it's pretty obvious that they are having security breach problems I'm even more reluctant to provide them with my personal information.
I believe that the problem has been solved for me after a chat with my local rep. My understanding is that if you decline to go through with the security check process (which my firm declined to do) then you will not have access to unmasked SSN's and other sensitive information.
Best regards,
Dorene

Subject: [LAW-LIB:58951] Regarding Post Earlier this Week on LexisNexis Security Checks
An article in the Washington Post was brought to my attention about a security breach at LexisNexis.
See: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/05/01/AR2009050103151.html
I can't remember who posted complaints earlier this week about LN process with their customers. When it comes to my personal information, I think the inconvenience to the user to complete the security process is irrelevant.
