Hi everyone. This is posted on behalf of Susan Rubinstein.

We are looking for the legal term that describes the concept of a law or
case decision not being retroactive. In other words, a decision handed down
in the 24th century would not apply in the 21st century. Kind of the reverse
of stare decisis (not sure of the spelling of this and don't feel like
    getting the dictionary).

If you know what this is off the top of your head, please e-mail me. Don't
go to a lot of trouble; this is for a fictional writing project on
    fanfiction.net

If anyone is really interested, I'll post the details. The stories are
    hysterical!
