Thanks to all who responded to my plea for a list of law books used/owned/consulted by Abraham Lincoln.
The best source, for my limited purposes, was a list from the National Park Service at: http://www.nps.gov/history/history/online_books/liho/sectiond-e.htm , submitted by Riva Laughlin. Not limited to law books, the list does however, include several law-related and law-specific titles.
Also of interest is the Law Library of Congress "Lincoln and the Law" site: http://www.loc.gov/law/help/rare-books/lincoln.php#lawyer submitted by Paula Lichtenberg.
Several people suggest I investigate the Lincoln Presidential Library/Museum (http://www.alplm.org/home.html)and the Lincoln-Herndon Law Office (http://www.illinoishistory.gov/hs/Lincoln_herndon.htm), both in Springfield, Illinois.
Also, a 1929 article in the ABA Journal (v.15 p.125-126), "Lincoln's Law Books" by William Townsend was helpful. Finally, there are several pre-1950 book length studies of "what Lincoln read" and several more recent studies of" Lincoln as a lawyer" for those who want to continue the search...
Thanks again,
Dick
