My previous posting was:
I am looking at reducing the US securities materials we have in our
Library (in Toronto, Canada). I would appreciate hearing from US law
librarians as to which of the following publication(s) I should keep:
Steinberg: Securities Regulation: Liabilities and Remedies, Law Journal
Press
Soderquist on the Securities Laws, PLI
Loss: Fundamentals of Securities Regulation, Aspen
Hazen: Treatise on the Law of Securities Regulation, West
We also have Bloomethal: Securities Law Handbook which I will be keeping
as it is quite popular, and maybe this is all I need to keep.
The responses were: (thanks to everyone)
Loss is a classic and Soderquist is a good intro to securities law.
I would definitely keep the Loss book. And you are right to keep
Bloomenthal
We have Loss and Hazen. That combination works well for our needs
Loss: Fundamentals of Securities Regulation, Aspen --I'm told constantly
by our attorney's that this is "the" treatise, yet I never actually see
it used.
Hazen: Treatise on the Law of Securities Regulation, West --We just
cancelled this set in January, we're keeping the books and updating
sections as needed via Westlaw now.
Bloomethal: Securities Law Handbook --This is the only book I know for
sure gets used in our collection.
The Loss and Hazen books are really good basic books to have on hand and
the Bloomethal is good also. Another book to have that is a desk book
for all of our lawyers is the Securities Act Handbook from Aspen, it is
the straight up law but it is essential to them.
I would keep the Loss "Fundamentals" as a basic primer. The securities
nutshell from west gets some interest here (& is very cheap)
Hazen and Loss are famous treatises
