Dear List (especially Academics):
We're currently revisiting our processes for gathering and recording
data on Reference Desk transactions. Our current practice is has been
the typical rubric, recording the mode of contact, the patron type, the
duration of the question, and the time of day on a grid. We
subsequently analyze this data after entering it into a spreadsheet.
One question that we have has to do with automation: do any of you all
record your Reference Transactions electronically? We're also
re-thinking which data points are key to record and analyze: are there
categories of data (from Ref X-actions) that you specifically do not
record? Are there categories that you wish you did not?
Please send your replies to me off list. If there is sufficient
interest, I will summarize (and anonymize) responses for the list.
Best,
dkp
