Colleagues,
The law-lib list, like other e-mail lists, is not a public
forum. It is the 'property' of the list owner, and the list
owner has the right to decide who can be a member of the
list. If one is removed from a list, one can join another,
or create a blog or a website or even another e-mail list.
Running a list with a lot of members is a rather time
consuming task, so if there are list members who are making
that job even more difficult, then I think it is reasonable
for the list owner to either remove them or suspend them for
a few days or a few weeks.
I receive the list in digest mode, which means I get one
(lengthy) message from the list every day. As a result, I
cannot simply filter flames and trolls to my Trash folder.
If, as I suspect, the list has lost members due to these
recurring flame wars, then I think we'd be better off losing
the troublemakers and hopefully regaining the legitimate
members who have left.
By the way, I'd be willing to assist with managing the list
if Judy decides she'd like some help.
