In defense of Donna, I was very glad to see this email. I had an
attorney from NY call last week asking me if I had any Internet sources
for him on the topic of private equity. Since it's not my area of
expertise, I referred him to Donna's web site since I knew she offered
    seminars on this topic.
I'll be sending him this email. By the way, the price looks very
    reasonable.

RE: Thank goodness for the new PRIVATE EQUITY book from Alert Publications, Inc.!!!!

Okay, I know Donna Tuke is a librarian and Alert Publications is a small, no doubt struggling, independent. And I know other members of the list have occasionally touted their own products on the list, albeit usually in response to a specific question or about a product more generically pertinent to librarianship asa a profession. But, come on, that subject line??? Why not "Add inches to your personal shelf space" or "Get prescription legal publications from overseas" or "AAA Grade Replica books". But I swear to Melvyl Dewey, the day I start seeing ads on law-lib from West or Lexis, heads will roll. Seriously, Donna, to me it seems kind of pushing the tacky button to use the convenience of the list for blatant advertising. Others may disagree, particularly somebody who might have been asked this morning to find a book on Private Equity, but really... Doesn't seem to be in the spirit of the purpose the list was designed for. By the way, if anyone is in the market for a used car, I have a 1953 Hudson, low mileage, one owner...

ANNOUNCING: A New Research Guide to Financial Information

Just released, Researching Private Equity is a collection of definitive articles on all aspects of finding essential information on private equity financing. It was written by international business consultant Sylvia James and Harvard Business School curriculum specialist Ann Cullen.

Increase your skills in the specialized research methods you need to employ when seeking information in this complex area of corporate finance with this new title from Alert Publications, Inc. This book, which is also available in e-format with live links, allows business researchers to access the same data that private equity professionals use to determine how and when to make deals.

Private equity companies have been investing in new and established businesses for many years and are now firmly in the public eye following the failures of many private equity-backed start-up companies during the dotcom boom. With the recent re-emergence of large and controversial leveraged buyouts and the subsequent public outcry over job cuts in private equity-backed companies, private equity financing is here to stay.

All business researchers need to understand the dynamics of private equity financing. Now you will be able to locate the numerous essential sources that can yield valuable data, statistics, and financials. You will learn how to gather all the decision-making information business owners and executives need.

Researching Private Equity also contains an extensive source guide that Sylvia James has been developing for many years."This guide to helpful sources is a practical resource that I use nearly every day. It will help anyone who is researching this area of finance for the first time to really understand the whole sector," she says. The Private Equity Source Guide covers a wide range of materials from books that tell the stories of deals to a detailed list of the very specific sources and services that are aimed at private equity professionals.
