Thank you and all others who responded. I have since recd info from
Peter Durham at Thomson that it was started in 1964 by 3 Cross brothers.
Warren, Gorham and Lamont were their middle names. see below.

Good morning, Nancy. I'm the librarian at Thomson Reuters. I forwarded
your question to the director of WGL treatises and got this response:

WGL was founded in 1964 by the three Cross brothers of Boston. I heard
that the names Warren, Gorham and Lamont were the brothers' middle
names, because Theodore Lamont Cross was the president of the company.

WGL started with The Bankers Magazine and The Banking Law Journal, the
first of which was founded in 1846 and both of which were published
until World War II. They added other banking and real estate
periodicals. J. Smith Homans founded the original bankers mag and
    journal.

In 1971, WGL bought Federal Tax Press, which was Boris Bittker's private
publishing venture, and then expanded its tax line and started a law
line with an emphasis on business and commercial law.

    In 1980, Thomson bought WGL.

I would only add that Thomson and Reuters merged in April 2008.

    >From the WGL treatises director:

No, it wasn't WGL until 1964. Before that, the banking journals
were published by ??? (probably self-published?) until WWII. It seems
that the Cross brothers bought the rights to the journals when they
founded WGL. J. Smith Homans founded the original bankers mag and
    journal.

            Nancy,

A quick google search turned up the information that W,G&L was
founded in Boston in the mid-60's by Theodore Cross and his two
brothers. The firm was sold to Thomson in 1980. It was dissolved and
it's publications split between Thomson-West and RIA in 1990.

Does anyone have any history about this company? Information
wanted is founding date and where. And who was Warren, Gorham & Lamont?
We know this company has been bought and split up and is now part of
Thomson RIA or whatever they are called these days. Thanks for any
    help.
