While the rest of the world doesn't get a vote, they certainly get the consequences. See, http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/nov/01/elections-obama-mccain-us a-bush "Though we lack the vote, this is our election too. Such statements outrage many Americans and inspire others. But the rest of the world has not just lived this election. Our life chances and societies will also be shaped by what happens next Tuesday. The world has an interest in the outcome because, in spite of everything, America remains the world's pre-eminent military, political, financial and cultural power." On September 11, 2001, citizens of the United States discovered that people living in caves on the opposite side of the earth can have a tremendous, and continuing, impact on their lives. Why are we afraid to realize that the policies of our elected officials, and our presumptions of what is "best," can have tremendous impact on people throughout the world? At least I recognize Mr. Huttner's statement of frustration as a plea that the United States at least consider the impact of its policies upon the rest of the world prior to implementation. And sending Australia a bill for its share of back taxes will hardly be availing when China demands payment upon its note for borrowed funds. Chas. When did you become a state? If this is the case, it's time to pay your back taxes...the bill is in the mail. Perhaps you should inform Kevin Rudd of this development, also. I think he might feel differently. ________________________________ From: owner-law-lib@ucdavis.edu [mailto:owner-law-lib@ucdavis.edu] On Behalf Of Ronald Huttner Sent: Sunday, November 02, 2008 6:27 PM To: law-lib@ucdavis.edu Subject: [LAW-LIB:57118] The USA Election Tomorrow Given the fact that the USA runs the world (including Australia) on everyone's behalf whether so requested or not, is there any facility for us folks "Down Under" to cast a vote tomorrow ? There ought to be !
