    Information Entrepreneurship
    Online -- November 1 - 30, 2008

Explore the exciting field of information entrepreneurship with a focus
on independent research businesses, also called information brokerages.
Workshop topics will include education, skills, and traits, the business
infrastructure, marketing and sales, product development and
deliverables, and tools of the trade. Use this opportunity to evaluate
whether this business is for you by identifying and discussing your
strengths and learning other skills you will need. We'll also discuss
activities pursued by independent information professionals (IIPs) such
as online, telephone and manual library research, legal and public
records research, market research (secondary and primary), competitive
intelligence, and industry and company research. Other areas include
patents, medical information retrieval, prospect research, due
diligence, and consulting and training, depending on the interests of
    workshop participants.

Two texts are required: /Building and Running a Successful Research
Business/ by Mary Ellen Bates and /Super Searchers Make It On Their Own/
    by Suzanne Sabroski.

Secret Formula for Quality Business Research
    November 1 - 30, 2008

Come learn about searching Web sites and portals, the importance of
value-added aggregators and databases, and alternative search engines
for Web 2.0 resources. Sharpen your internet and Web 2.0 searching
skills with hands-on exercises that we discuss in this online workshop
environment. No two searchers use the same sources or techniques.
Through presentation slides and search strategy discussion forums,
you'll extend your knowledge of how and where to search on topics
assigned or of personal interest to you.
