Researching the Credit Crunch: Finding and Using Information

The news is everywhere—we are in very gloomy economic times. More than ever, business executives and lawyers need information in order to deal with the credit crisis. In this half-day briefing, legal and business information professionals will gain an understanding of all aspects of today’s complex financial situation. You will learn how to identify and locate the specific data that is required for organizations to prepare strategies and plans to ride out the storm. You will be able to be part of the team that plans this survival strategy for your organization.
International business consultant Sylvia James will explain the background to the crisis and the basics of the money market and the financial instruments that are at the root of the current credit crisis. She will focus on the areas that are most likely to require research and suggest resources and source routes you will use immediately and successfully and make yourself invaluable as the researcher in this area at your organisation.
James has prepared a detailed guide to sources just for this session. You will also receive copies of the relevant Business Information Alert articles you need to deepen your understanding of the background to the credit crunch. .
Sylvia James has been following the credit crunch since it began in August 2007. In January 2007, six months before this latest crisis developed, she wrote the article “Philosophy of Business Information” in Business Information Alert (Vol 19, No. 1, January 2007). In this reflection, she looked at the basic reasons why business information was necessary to companies and organizations of all kinds. She highlighted the fact that, especially in bad times, good research was an absolutely necessary for all businesses.
We all know those bad times have come and it is now time to put your skills into action. With the information and guide to resources you will get from this briefing, you will have the knowledge and tools for doing the job.
