With Congress heading into August recess, AALL's Washington Affairs
Office is asking you to contact your House Representative in his or her
district office with an urgent request
    <http://www.aallnet.org/aallwash/aa07312008.pdf> to co-sponsor H.R.
    6589 <http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d110:h.r.06589:> , the
Charles H.W. Meehan Law Library Improvement and Modernization Act. This
bill, which AALL and the American Bar Association have been working
toward for years, will authorize a one-time, additional $3.5 million for
the Law Library of Congress and its own separate line item in the
Federal budget beginning in FY 2010. It will also establish the Charles
H.W. Meehan Law Library Support Program, which will allow outside
funding to be raised and provided to the Law Library for new enhanced
services, such as interlibrary loan and electronic document delivery.

    Please see our Action Alert
    <http://www.aallnet.org/aallwash/aa07312008.pdf> , which includes
background information and a sample message. If your Representative is
on either the Committee on House Administration or the House
Subcommittee on the Legislative Branch, it is especially important that
you contact him or her. In the alert, we have listed the contact
information for each member of those committees to make it easy for you
to take action. Please take advantage of the August recess and call your
Representative's local office or set up a meeting with office staff
    today!

A strong Law Library of Congress is important to every law librarian and
legal researcher. This is your opportunity to help the Law Library
become the first-class institution that you deserve. Please take action
    <http://www.aallnet.org/aallwash/aa07312008.pdf> now!
