Federal Law Librarians Caucus Meeting at AALL

    Hi everyone,
Please see below or attached for a list of possible
discussion topics for our meeting in Portland on the 14th.  These are ideas
based on feedback I've received so far, but they're not set in stone.  I
know some of us are travelling quite a distance to get to Portland, but if you
could find room in your luggage for handouts, marketing materials, etc as
discussed below, please bring them along!
I look forward to seeing you soon!

    Jennifer

    Roundtable
    Discussion Topics
    Federal Law Librarians
    Caucus Meeting
    July 14, 2008, 5:30
    – 6:30 pm

Succession Plans – Do you have
one?  Do you need one?  Do you currently have programs such as
        cross-training and mentoring?

Training – Do you provide training
classes or one-on-one instruction to your patrons? Is there a way for us to
more easily share training resources and ideas with each other?

Marketing – Do you have innovative
ways of marketing your services to your patrons?  What works and what
        doesn’t?

Statistics – Do you keep them and
what do you do with them?  How do you show your value to your agency or
        organization?

        Competencies – Draft FLICC Federal
Librarian Competencies available at: http://www.loc.gov/flicc/competencies/HRWG0415comp.pdf. Do you have you own?

Resource sharing / collaboration – Are
there other ways for federal librarians to work together and share
resources, such as e-resources, and other collections?

What more can we do as a caucus within
AALL?  Should we remain a caucus, or try to become an SIS?  Should
we have a table in the exhibit hall?  Collaborate on a program to
propose, if not for next year, then the following year?

We have a FLLC Web site where we can
post documents and a listserv on which we can share ideas: http://www.aallnet.org/caucus/fllc/.\ Are we using those resources as much as
        we can/should?

AALL is in DC next year. Turnout among
federal librarians should be high.  Do we want to try to do anything
special, as far as tours, events, etc for federal librarians?

What other topics would you like to
        talk about?

Please bring examples of documents and
handouts, such as succession plans, marketing materials, research guides,
training materials, etc. we can share with each other during our
    discussion!
