PRINCIPAL LAW LIBRARIAN
The Maine Legislature's State Law and Legislative Reference Library, a
nonpartisan staff office of the Legislative Council, is seeking a
full-time Principal Law Librarian to assist the Director in overall
library management. This position is responsible for public services
within the library, which provides support to legislators and
legislative staff, state agencies, the judiciary, private attorneys and
the general public.
Examples of selected responsibilities: coordinating the library's
public service and reference functions, interlibrary loan services,
Federal documents depository program and circulation services;
supervising librarians and other staff; establishing reference and
circulation desk schedules and maintaining usage and performance data;
participating in reference desk coverage; and identifying and managing
existing and new electronic resources. Serves as back-up to the
Director with respect to management and policy issues.
Desired Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in library science from
ALA-accredited program or equivalent combination of education or
experience; J.D. from ABA-accredited program preferred; five years
professional library experience including two years in a supervisory
role; strong organizational skills; extensive experience with
library-related computer applications; exemplary interpersonal,
teamwork, supervisory and management skills.
Salary: Grade 12 of the Legislative Salary Schedule (salary begins at
$61,505.60 annually) with additional 3% cost-of-living increase on
7/1/08, plus full benefit package.
Value of State-paid health and dental insurance: $322.97 biweekly.
Value of State's share of retirement: 18.46% of employee's gross pay.
