Calling all Conflicts and /or Docket Manager Law Librarians , PLL
members and those who want enhance their careers by becoming one or
understand what your colleagues are doing! There's still time to
register for the 1/2 day workshop at AALL "So Now You're Conflict / So
Now You're Docket : The Evolving Law Firm Library Manager" ( workshop
W4). Please excuse the cross posting, but we want to get the news of
this exciting and very affordable ( $85 for AALL members / $105 to
others) workshop at the AALL Portland meeting Saturday, July 12th
12:30pm to 5:30pm. Lucy Lucy Curci-Gonzalez PLL Chair

I'd like to take this opportunity to notify/remind everyone that a
half-day workshop on the management of conflicts of interest and
docket/calendar departments in law firms is scheduled for Saturday, July
12th from 12:30pm to 5:30pm. Please note: although the target audience
is private law librarians who have recently been tapped to manage the
related information areas of conflicts of interest and/or
docket/calendar or who anticipate evolving into administrative managers
with greater departmental responsibilities, the workshop would also be
appropriate for legal records and docket managers who may be branching
out. Given the general scarcity of educational opportunities on this
topic, please feel free to pass this information along to non-law
librarians who might benefit. If your firm is located in the general
vicinity of the Pacific Northwest or even south into Northern
California, attending this workshop might be economically feasible.

    Learning Outcomes:
    (1) Participants will discuss and analyze the requirements and
challenges of library department management versus docket/calendar and
conflicts department management in a private law setting.
    (2) Participants will be qualified to develop a plan for managing
docket/calendar and conflicts departments from initial set-up to
    operational efficiency.

    Description:
Whereas the literature on legal records management has expanded greatly
over the past few years, very little has been written on the subject of
how docket/calendar and conflicts of interest departments operate in law
firms. To a great degree, staff working in these departments -
including managers - tend to be internally appointed, or "home grown,"
and trained on the job with few, if any, opportunities for formal
training or instruction. Firm librarians are increasingly being tapped
to set up and manage these related information areas; however, many must
embark on this adventure clueless as to what's actually involved. This
workshop will provide a unique opportunity to learn from two experts in
their respective fields about what it really means to evolve into the
role of docket/calendar and conflicts of interest manager.

Sarah Mauldin, Co-coordinator, Chamberlain, Hrdlicka, White, Williams &
