You mean you haven't heard about their new Special Customer Service
Plan? For a small additional monthly fee, a Lexis crack team consisting
of an infinite number of monkeys at an infinite number of keyboards will
type in random combinations of keystrokes guaranteed to include all
unused passwords (the monkeys are docked a banana for wasting company
time typing out the Complete Works of William Shakespeare), thus keeping
all your passwords active. Call in today. Our operators are standing by.
And with each order you get, ABSOLUTELY FREE, your very own hand-crafted
    Lexis-Nexis-Courtlink-File and Serve-Accurint-Reed-Elsevier "The
Customer is Our Top Priority" t-shirt. (This offer not available in
    stores. Individual monkey not included.)

    Disappearing Lexis IDs

This is similar to what repeatedly happens with our Accurint IDs
since Lexis took over. I too am baffled as to why Lexis would choose to
antagonize users and increase the workload of those administering the
IDs. What precisely is the security problem they are attempting to
correct? My response the first time an attorney calls me frantically,
and irritated, to report that his or her Lexis ID no longer works:
"Really? Well, try your Westlaw ID -- it's ..."

Subject: [LAW-LIB:55491] New Lexis "Security Measures" and Disappearing
    Lexis IDs

Heads up! I've been plagued with Lexis IDs mysteriously
disappearing from our accounts. This includes the IDs (hourly and
transactional) for our entire class of first-year associates and one or
the other of these IDs for a handful of recent lateral hires. It isn't
    consistent.

Our Lexis rep has informed me that this is part of additional
new "security measures" and that inactive IDs will time-out after six
months. This doesn't explain why most of our IDs are still active and
showing up on the list, even for those who've had their IDs for years
    and not used them.

Having Lexis IDs time out after six months is a terrible idea.
It creates more work for those administering Lexis IDs in their firms
and will mean that occasional Lexis users will not have ready access to
Lexis; we'll have to create new IDs each time they want to use the
service which will create unnecessary delays for those needing to do
research. I note that Westlaw does not currently employ these
    draconian "security measures."

Has anyone else run into this problem or heard anything about
this new approach with Lexis IDs?
