    Library Associates Companies (LAC) seeks a Business / Legal Researcher
    our client, a growing and dynamic research firm in Washington, DC. The
    Researcher is responsible for providing reference services involving
    business, legal, and general information sources to consulting and
    administrative staff using a variety of databases and research tools.
    He or she also performs other functions regarding library operations.
    This is a newly created position looking for someone highly motivated

    Responsibilities:

    * Conduct domestic and international business and legal research
    utilizing appropriate database and research tools and direct Consultants
    to appropriate sources;
    * Review diverse sources of information for currency, reliability,
    relevance, and cost effectiveness, then choose the best sources for
    answering research requests;
    * Interface with law firms, agencies, libraries and organizations;
    represent the firm in a professional manner;
    * Compile and organize information obtained in research projects
    into a coherent, focused collection of information, accompanied by
    explanatory notes if relevant, so that the material is readily
    understandable to the user;
    * Maintain familiarity with the library's own information
    resources, in particular its catalog, circulation, acquisitions, and
    routing systems;
    * Maintain awareness of current developments on legal news and
    information services, specifically with developments regarding new
    specialized databases relevant to the offices' practice areas;
    * Recognize new information resources, both in print and
    electronic form, and make recommendations for new acquisitions to the
    library director;
    * Provide orientation and instruction regarding library procedures
    and use;
    * Conduct database training sessions and general training on
    library and information resources;
    * Perform other library administrative and technical services
    tasks as required and complete special projects on various issues as
    assigned;
    * Promote effective work practices, work as a team member, and
    show respect for co-workers.

    Additional Responsibilities:

    The statements contained in this position description are not

    requirements may vary from time to time, and from location to location.
    There is a special requirement for the position - i.e. heavy lifting as
    light lifting of books and other library materials is required.

     

    Education, Skills and Experience:

    * Knowledge of automated business and legal database research
    systems;
    * Knowledge of print reference sources in business and legal
    areas;
    * Ability to organize collections of materials and information;
    * Comfortable multitasking and working in an extremely fast-paced
    environment;
    * Strong analytical skills with minimal supervision needed;
    * Well developed and professional interpersonal skills; ability to
    interact effectively with people at all organizational levels of the
    firm;
    * Strong communication skills, both written and verbal;
    * Ability to work as a team player;
    * Capable of collaborating with research staff in their own and
    other offices and drawing on the individual skills of the members of the
    research team to complete all aspects of an assignment;
    * Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with
    the appropriate discretion;
    * Ability to manage time well, prioritize effectively, and handle
    multiple deadlines;
    * Knowledge and proficiency in PC applications, including MS
    Office;
    * Master's degree in Library Science (MLS) is preferred, however a
    Master's degree in another specialty may be considered in lieu of the
    MLS or a minimum of three (3) years research experience in a related
    industry library may be substituted for the Master's degree.
