Here are the responses from this request. Thanks for all those who
responded; each really helped. At the end of these suggestions, I
described how I did end up handling this:
Did Moody's have a cross-listing of directors by name in that era?
Another option, check with the Conference Board
http://www.conference-board.org/ <http://www.conference-board.org/>
they might be able to help.
S&P has that directory of Officers and Directors but I don't know how
far back it goes. Probably would need to go to a large public library.
I don't know of anything online that would cover those years.
For New York there is something called Directory of Directors in the
City of New York and Tri-State Area. I think it goes back to 1898.
This information is in the "Directors and Executives" volume of Standard
& Poor's Register of Corporations, Directors and Executives. If you
look up the director's name, it will list what other boards the
individual is on. It's been published since 1928. If you can't find
this locally, the New York Public Library has an excellent research
service who can take care of it.
Another thing to consider is how much information companies were
required to disclose back then. I seem to recall that way early SEC
filings didn't have much in them
I am not aware of a source where you can locate the other board
memberships for directors of a company, 1959-1966. There are databases
like Capital IQ, but I'm sure they don't go back to 1959 and you would
have to subscribe to the entire platform. You may want to contact
Disclosure or Moody's to find out if they have public company records
available in a database for that time period. I doubt they converted
the records, but I don' know. Perhaps an obituary would indicate past
board memberships.
The route I took that satisfied my requestor, was have our local
university look up the individuals name (the requestor had these) on
Marquis Who's Who. I have never used this source online myself, but it
sounds like it is cumulative, covering many years and fairly straight
forward. Out of the 50 or so names we needed information on, they
located about 40. As part of the bios, they list the board of directors
the individuals had been on. Thanks again for all the wonderful
advice listed above

Subject: [LAW-LIB:55391] Company Board of Director's - OLD
Is there a resource where I can track names of the board of director's
for public companies from 1959-1966s? I need to know if individual
board members of a publicly traded company headquartered in New York
during this time, were on boards of other companies. I assume this
information would be in SEC filings, but I am unable to locate a
searchable databse of filings from this time period. Any and all advice
would be appreciated. Thanks,
