Fisher v. Lowe, 122 Mich. App. 418, 333 N.W.2d 67 (1983)
In tort claim for damages caused by car to tree, opinion is takeoff of
Joyce Kilmer's poem "Trees." West's attorney editor gets in on the act
as well: synopsis and headnotes also in verse.

Not all might be suitable for the reading level of a middle schooler,
but these include some of my favorites:
State v. Hayes, 119 Ohio Misc. 2d 124 to show that it is res judicata
that there is a Santa Claus, and he is a resident of Ohio.
United States ex rel. Mayo v. Satan & His Staff, 54 F.R.D. 282 is a
classic.
Noble v. Bradford Marine, 789 F. Supp. 395 has some interesting
"Wayne's World" references, though it is a complex procedural issue
(removal to federal court).
Cordas v. Peerless Transp. Co., 27 N.Y.S.2d 198 is written in dramatic
Elizabethan-inspired prose.
Hynes v. New York C. R. Co., 231 N.Y. 229 is probably the best-written
opinion I've ever read, and is an example of Cardozo at his best. Plus
the facts are straightforward.
Mitzel v. Zachman, 219 Minn. 253 because you rarely read about
"malicious castration" of bulls.
Randazzo v. Eagle-Picher Industries, Inc., 117 F.R.D. 557 has the best
blasting of an attorney by a judge I've come across.
Katko v. Briney, 183 N.W.2d 657 might not be suitable due to its mention
of spring-activated gun traps, but the facts are very accessible, and it
is a case that generated much subsequent commentary and word of mouth
discussion, until the facts became almost no longer recognizable. I
remember hearing about it years before I attended law school in one of
those "lawyers are ruining the world" rants at a family gathering, and
the "word of mouth" version was vastly different from the original
facts.
Parks v. LaFace Records, 329 F.3d 437 because they might learn something
about Rosa Parks while reading about Outkast (warning: contains rap
lyrics and some minor profanity).

I particularly like the unique ADR method of ordering a "rock, paper
scissors" match on the court house steps.
