    Dear Elaine,

I read your post regarding Westlaw contacting attorneys for one-on-one
training. Even though the training is "free" it does end up costing money
when your attorneys start using Westlaw more (and possibly using databases
    outside your contract).

When I was a law librarian at Bryan Cave in Los Angeles, we hired Carole
Levitt and Mark Rosch (Internet For Lawyers - www.netforlawyers.com) for a
one hour program to teach our attorneys how to find FREE information on the
    Internet.

Carole and Mark don't try to tell attorneys they can completely replace pay
databases, but try to show attorneys some free alternatives to some of the
pay databases' files and also show attorneys how to find some data unique to
    the free Web.

Having attorneys and legal professionals at your firm learn from Carole and
Mark will save them (and the firm's clients) time and money. I know that
Carole and Mark also do 2 hour and 3 hour hands-on training at firms.
Sometimes you need to spend money on training to save money down the road in
    research costs.

    Yours truly,

This month, a Westlaw trainer (someone completely unknown to me) began
contracting individuals within the firm, making appointments for one-on-one
training. I asked him to call me and he told me this was a new service of
West, designed to take the pressure off account managers. I politely told
him NOT to contact anyone but me as regards training schedules. We have a
limited Westlaw subscription, and have been in the habit of providing
training in-house. His return email expressed the hope that this would not
affect my future relationship with West, but EVERYTHING affects my
    relationship with them!
