CORPORATE RESEARCH WORKSHOPS ANNOUNCED
BY BIA SEMINARS
Chicago, March 17, 2008—Two one-day business information seminars will be held in Chicago on March 31st and April 2nd. Sylvia James, an international management consultant will present Researching Private Equity and Ann Cullen, a curriculum services specialist at the Harvard Business School is the presenter for Researching US Corporate Documents.
In Researching Private Equity (March 31, 2008), James will provide an overview of the private equity sector and explain the specialized research methods you need to employ when seeking information in this complex area of corporate finance. She will identify the numerous essential sources that can be used to yield valuable data, statistics, and financials. Private equity (PE) companies have been investing in new and established businesses for many years and are now firmly in the public eye following the failures of many private equity-backed start-up companies during the dot.com boom. With the recent re-emergence of large and controversial leveraged buyouts and the subsequent public outcry over job cuts in PE-backed companies, private equity financing is here to stay and all business researchers need to understand its dynamics. In this seminar, you will learn how to gather all the decision-making information you need.
Sylvia James is a recognized authority on all aspects of effective business research, its provision, use, and analysis. Since 1988, she has worked as a management consultant in business information for a wide range of multinational companies in Europe, North America and Asia. James advises business executives and data compilers all over the world on strategy, identification of sources, and methods of collecting and disseminating data found in the research process.
On April 2, 2008, Ann Cullen, a Curriculum Services Specialist at the Harvard Business School, will present Researching U.S. Corporate Documents. Cullen will show you how to find and use these important sources of company information for strategic advantage in your business decision making. She will give you an overview of the role of public companies in business, and show you how to research U.S. company regulatory and legal documents including financial, FERC, bankruptcy, and UCC filings. She will also cover SEC filings, as well as other company reporting and communications channels.
Cullen is a nationally-recognized expert on identifying, researching, and using business information. At the Harvard Business School, she works with faculty to ensure that the MBA program incorporates an understanding and use of business research resources into the course curriculum. She gives seminars and assists with corporate research projects for Harvard Business School students, faculty and alumni in addition to teaching workshops to corporate executives and information specialists in the U.S. Cullen was previously the Financial Librarian at the Harvard Business School’s Baker Library and before that worked at Credit Suisse First Boston, Chase Manhattan Bank, and the American Management Association. She has also been a trainer for Ericsson Telecommunications in Rome and the British Embassy.
Space for the seminars is limited. The fee [$350] for each seminar includes all seminar materials and a copy of Researching Global Business (Volume 1 in the Guide to International Business Information series). Lunch and coffee breaks will be provided.
