Although Lexis has owned Mealey's publications for some time, they
announced this year that, beginning on February 4th, Mealey's
publications would no longer be invoiced under "LexisNexis Mealey's" but
would now be invoiced under "LexisNexis Matthew Bender."
I recently received my first Matthew Bender invoice for a Mealey's
publication and was shocked to find a shipping/handling charge for my
Mealey's insurance litigation reports (never charged by Mealey's)...AND
that it is $102.40 per copy, per year. That means that, along with a
slight increase in the base price of the publication and an increased
amount in tax on the new shipping/handling, I'm now being asked to pay
$443.20 more for my 2 copies than I did in 2007.
Neither Matthew Bender nor Mealey's gave me any explanation that made
any sense to me. It seems the explanation that is to be the standard
reply is that the charge is a result of "being in the Matthew Bender
system." Mealey's verified that their publications are still being
shipped in the same manner. In fairness, Mealey's offered to waive this
fee for me for the first year but I frankly told them that, while I
appreciated this (and did take them up on it), I would end up being just
as angry about this next year.
I was wondering if anyone else has received their new Mealey's invoice
and have a) had a similar experience/explanation from the publishers
and/or b) any suggestions or inventive solutions. Thanks for any
feedback you can give.
