Hi Belinda,
First, check into the American Ass'n of Law Libraries website,
aallnet.org for the following information:
1. Chapters - is there one in your area? If so, contact the chapter
president and see if there's a local librarian who can mentor you. Many
chapters also offer legal research courses which provide the basic
information on how legal information is organized in your state.
2. Go to the Private Law Librarians Special Interest Section
http://www.aallnet.org/sis/pllsis/ and look at the Toolkit, which will
have information about law firm librarian competencies.
Also, check with a court or academic library in your area - they should
be able to give you a general idea of how a law library is organized.
Finally, there might be an "independent" librarian in your area - an
experienced professional who contracts with law firms to perform
services - they are usually good at organizing firm libraries that have
gone to seed.
Good luck!
