Wouldn't you go through the CCC (Copyright Clearance Center)?

On a variation of what you are being asked to do, the ABA had me get
copyright permissions for every screen shot in my ABA book. We had to
email every website owner. It was so time consuming that I hired an
assistant to handle it. Some web site owners never emailed back (we
dropped their screenshots from the book), some wanted to first see the
screen shot and caption, and others answered back right away with a
    blanket "yes."

-----Original Message----- From: owner-law-lib@ucdavis.edu [mailto:owner-law-lib@ucdavis.edu] On Behalf Of Sandy Placzek Sent: Thursday, February 28, 2008 1:16 PM To: law-lib@ucdavis.edu Subject: [LAW-LIB:54865] Questions about copyright permissions

A faculty member has asked if the law library would handle acquiring permission from various publishers to reprint materials he wants to distribute to his class in a "class packet". This service used to be provided by our university bookstore, but they are no longer offering it. He doesn't want us to compile the packet, just get the permissions. This is something new for us and we were wondering if:

    1. Any other law libraries provide this service to their faculty members; 2. If you do provide this service, is there a procedure you follow - and if so would you be willing to share; 3. If you do provide this service, how much time does it usually take.

Any responses would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks so much, Sandy
