Wow, a HUGE thank you to all who responded! Of the nine libraries who
answered, five have no written policy on internet usage in general. Two
have a written policy specifically for WestPac/Lexis, while two more
include legal databases under the general internet usage policy. No
libraries make any distinction between attorney and non-attorney usage.
Most restrictions in place limit the time computers can be used, so as
to allow time to those who may be waiting.
Extra special thanks go to Kathy Carlson of the Wyoming State Law
Library and June Strojny of the Social Law Library in Boston for sending
me copies of their policies. This has all been extremely helpful;
thanks again, everyone!

Subject: [LAW-LIB:54836] Policy for public Westlaw use?
FAMU's law library is also the public law library for the county and the
Orange County Bar Association. Recently, we signed a contract for
WestPac, a limited-access version of Westlaw for public use. (We do
receive funds from the county, but they do not go toward the WestPac
charges.) We have both attorneys and public patrons coming in to use
this resource. Does anyone else have anything like this, and if so, do
you have a written usage policy? Does it distinguish between attorneys
and non-attorneys? I will summarize responses for the list. Thanks
very much!
