2. The practice of licensing electronic resources should be
accomplished in good faith by all parties. It is important that the
process be carried out as openly as possible to achieve fairness and to
develop best practices. A confidentiality or nondisclosure agreement
should not be a prerequisite to a license agreement.

3.2(a) Publishers should not bind their customers to a non-disclose
clause as a non-negotiable requirement of doing business.

I have one suggestion -- refuse to sign any vendor
contract that includes a confidentiality clause. As librarians, we
specialize in information and yet voluntarily restrict our ability to
share the most fundamental budgeting information with each other -- how
much does something cost? I would like to see AALL adopt a policy
against confidentiality clauses so that we do not have to battle this
issue individually. Confidentiality clauses are strictly and
completely for the benefit of the vendors -- they not only do us no good
at all, they significantly weaken our position as information consumers
and professional managers.

This is ridiculous. Pretty soon we are going to have to pay $99
for a report that used to cost us $1. It's pretty clear that AALL is
hamstrung on this kind of issue. What can we do about these things?
Do we as individual librarians need to take a more activist role? What
can we do?
Thanks,

I know many people migrated from Accurint to Choicepoint because
of Accurint's outrageous price increases... expect the same outrageous
increases from Choicepoint... Monoploy is not just a board game...

From a LexisNexis news release (2/21/08)
I am pleased to let you know that earlier today our parent
company, Reed Elsevier Group plc, announced its intention to acquire
ChoicePoint Inc., a leading provider of identification and credential
verification services to individuals, businesses, and governments.
ChoicePoint will be combined with our Risk & Information Analytics
Group, the unit that currently serves your business needs. (Additional
text omitted).
LN already owns Accurint...does this mean that Accurint and
AutoTrack will merge someday..?
