“Researching Private Equity,”
March 31st, will address the whole private equity sector and examine the
research methods and sources for this specialized area of corporate finance. Private equity companies
have been investing in new companies and established businesses for many years and
are now firmly in the public eye following the failures of many PE backed start-up companies
during the dot.com boom. Now the re-emergence of very large buyouts is
challenging the future of many listed companies. In this seminar, the whole
private equity sector will be looked at and the research methods and sources
that can be used constructively in this specialized area of corporate finance
will be examined.
"Fundamentals of Corporate Finance,"
April 1st, is a seminar reviewing the current corporate (CF) sector. The session is intended as an introduction to mainstream corporate finance activity and terminology, for information professionals, analysts and other professionals who have no background or who have not worked in financial services, but find they need a background briefing in the important sector.
"Researching US Corporate Documents,"
April 2d, will explain the types of companies (i.e. public, private, partnerships), why companies are created, and how and why they raise capital. In addition, types of US company documents (financial, regulatory and legal filings) types of research, additional company communication channels and where to find SEC filings are explained. There will be several case studies in which students examine data and determine what type of research it might be useful for and identify the type of filing the data came from.
