Cleveland State University, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, seeks to
fill this full-time, tenure-track position starting 2008-09 academic year.
Built in 1997, the Cleveland State University Law Library is a state of
the art building. Exceeding 85,000 net sq. ft., it is the largest law
library in Ohio and among the 20 largest academic law libraries in the
United States. The collection contains more than a half million volumes
and is the second largest legal collection in Ohio. LEXIS, WESTLAW &
the OhioLINK system are among the electronic resources available. The
Law Library is a selective U.S. Government Depository.
The Director leads a staff of 20 in proactively supporting the
educational and research mission of the College of Law. The College of
Law serves approximately 50 faculty members and approximately 700
students. The College of Law has both full-time and part-time divisions.
*Minimum Qualifications*: JD degree from an ABA approved law school,
and an MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA-accredited institution.
Demonstrated experience and success in law library administration. A
strong professional record in teaching and scholarship or the promise of
achievement in these areas, as is appropriate to an academic law
librarian. Experience in providing leadership in the provision of
technology support to end-users. Possesses the leadership, interpersonal
skills, and professional knowledge necessary to meet the
responsibilities of the position. A strong commitment to achieving
excellence in satisfying the research and informational needs of
faculty, students and other library patrons, such as practicing lawyers,
alumni, and the general public.
*Preferred Qualifications*: A minimum of seven years of progressively
responsible professional experience as a law librarian. Demonstrated
service to the law library profession in a leadership capacity.
*Duties*: The Law Library Director is responsible for all aspects of
law library administration including the selection and retention of
staff; collection development; library services, budget administration
and policy planning. In addition, the Director oversees technology
services in the College of Law including desktop, classroom and server
support. As a member of the Law Faculty, the Director will have the
opportunity to teach and to participate in faculty governance of the law
school. Scholarly production appropriate to the position is expected.
The Director reports directly to the Dean of the College of Law.
