This morning I had to order some documents from an archived Federal
Civil Case. This is the first time I've had to get anything from an
archive other than the one local to us (Philadelphia) where we usually
send someone to the court to make copies once the box is pulled.

Anyway, I was surprised to learn that even though I only need 3-4 items
from the docket, the Archives policy is that you must order a complete
copy of the entire file (regardless of the size) even if you only want
an item or two. Luckily in my case there were ONLY 37 docket entries
(most of which I have no use for) but I could imagine this whole process
could get quite ridiculous with a larger case file. Is it just me or
does this all or nothing policy seem like it could be an extraordinary
waste of time/effort for many docs people don't need?
