In case anyone else encounters the same problem:

The USPS Address Management staffer for our area informed me that both +4 codes are correct. The one we were told to use is more on-point. It's firm-specific instead of street specific like the the other one. The catch: database search apps are address-based instead of name-based, so they will never pick up the more-specific code.

He also told me that the USPS will be issuing more addressing regulations for automated mail in the coming year, so maybe some of the problem will go away eventually. À suivre.

Subject: incorrect US Postal Service +4 ZIP code fix?

    Greetings, Liblings,

The US Snail assigned our firm a ZIP+4 code, but put a different one in the database. Publishers with automated systems can't correct it. Their systems keep re-inserting the wrong +4. They even try omitting +4 altogether, and their systems reinsert the wrong code. The Customer Service reps have their supervisors or IS folks try manual overrides, but the wrong code keeps reappearing. The wrong +4 really slows our mail delivery and probably accounts for missing issues.

Does anyone have a "fix" or USPS procedure for this?

    Merci d'avance,
