Hello everyone,
I've been fighting with a vexing question yesterday and today, trying to
compare the descriptions/definitions/class content between some 1974
Enterprise Standard Industrial Classification (ESIC)Manual codes and the
"similar-but-not-quite-identical" 1972 Standard Industrial
Classification (SIC) Manual codes on which the ESIC enterprise groups
are based.
1) I've found that the 1972 Standard Industrial Classification Manual
was created by the Office of Management and Budget. However, I have
searched OCLC and my local area libraries but for some reason I find
only the 1977 SUPPLEMENT to this title listed - I do not find the
original 1972 SIC Manual anywhere.
2) I also cannot lay eyes/hands on any record of the 1974 Enterprise
Standard Industrial Classification Manual except what I was able to
uncover in IRS Bulletin - 1986-4 IRB 52 (1986 IRB LEXIS 343). This IRB
Bulletin states at [*7} that "The content of each enterprise industry is
fully defined only by the reference to the corresponding industries in
the 1972 SIC Manual."
I'm not even completely positive these Manuals will have what I need - I
have the codes, but I need the meat and meaning behind them - I am
looking for the actual classifications/definitions of the following 2
Industries/Enterprise groups:
*** Educational Services (ESIC code 82, 82.0, and 82.00 and SIC code 82,
821-9, 8211-99)
*** Social Services (ESIC code 83, 83.0, and 83.00 and SIC code 83,
832-9, 8321-99)
I need help or guidance - if you wonderful librarians can assist, I
would appreciate it greatly.
Thank you!
