Another FYI, on the Intelius report: I did purchase an Intelius report
a few weeks ago doing a desperately needed reverse lookup on a cell
phone number, thinking that, with the "No results, no charge!" guarantee
that if I didn't get a hit, I wouldn't be charged. My results page told
me my transaction WAS successful: in the name field it listed "U.S.
Cellular." To me, this was NOT a successful transaction at all -- I was
looking for the name of a person, not the carrier (is it just me, or is
it pretty obvious that this is what a searcher would be aiming for by
purchasing a report??) -- so I requested a refund from Intelius which
they promptly gave me. The reply email they sent me said, "We apologize
for the lack of information in your phone search. The public record
only contains carrier information for the telephone number." Just a
caveat on Intelius.
Katherine, if you get any further good advice on this topic, it would be
great if you'd share or summarize -- thanks!

The do-not-call mentioned in the article links to the FTC Do-Not-Call
registry, not a method to opt out of the database listings. Do Not
Call-registered unlisted phone numbers are "available" if you want to
buy Intelius' report. (I searched mine but didn't buy the report):

Have you ever needed to find an unlisted phone number, owner of a cell
phone number, or a physical address belonging to a P.O. Box address?
I get these requests from time to time and have seen services on the web
that claim to be able to obtain this information.
Has anyone had experience using these services? Are they reliable and
do they get results? One of the services I am thinking about trying is
iinfosearch.com. Has anyone used this service?
