Sales for specific products are not required but some companies provide
"Business Segment Reporting" in their filings. Apart from that, for some
industries and market segments, there are research firms that track product
sales by product or company. I don't know about SSL/VPN offhand and often
find that when I don't know, I must do a combination of Internet and
fee-based database research to learn about appropriate sources. A quick
Google check came up with one firm that you may have already looked at since
their report appears to cover market share. Sometimes it's valuable to talk
to an analyst to see if they can shed additional light about whether or not
the information you need is available, if not through them, from someone
else. To come up with market share, they must have some hard data but may be
required to keep the information confidential. Business and trade journal
articles may quote a a company official and a literature search is another
way to uncover information. That said, highly competitive industries may
consider product sales proprietary and the information is not released.
Here is the name of the one group that came up quickly on Google and perhaps
contacting them (or finding others) could rule them in or out for further
assistance.

Subject: Sales figures for specific products
I thought I would throw this out there in case I am missing something.
I am trying to find sales figures for specific products ( SSL/VPN products
put out by companies like Motorola and Juniper). I checked SEC filings and
looked at market research, but nothing gave product specific sales figures
-- just market share. I am guessing that this is not generally public info,
but wanted to check with you all to make sure that I wasn't overlooking
anything.
