RE: Good place for financial information on a company other than D&B's?

Check with alternative credit reporting sources via Skyminder.com. They
offer D&B but also, several other vendor products. One of their custom
services is to compile "fresh" reports upon request but this does take
several days even with express service. In addition, depending on the
company, there are occasionally regional business articles about local
companies that contain some basic data, usually only sales though. Since
private companies are not required to report financials, any vendor/service
is hit and miss and dependent on what a company is willing to report.
Private company information is self-reported and unaudited. If a company
raises capital in one state, there may a REG D form filed (based on the 504
rule) aka REGDEX, or Private Placement. These forms can be uncovered in 10K
Wizard but are not online via 10K Wizard. It's necessary to get them from a
document delivery service or directly from a State Securities office, since
they must report at the state level. California is online
http://134.186.208.228/caleasi/pub/exsearch.htm but I don't know about other
states. For CA, it's first necessary to see if the company has any filings
and then look through the filings since the form number is not indicated.
First do a company lookup and if there, Select Notice Filing Form and look
through those. Often, I find it necessary to search many sources, both Web
and fee-based to piece together a picture of the financial health of a
company. It takes time and looking through many different databases. I'll
search all Dialog databases, Factiva, and LexisNexis. I also check the
Secretary of State database (LN or WestLaw to search all at one time but you
need to go direct to Delaware) for what they have though it's very limited.
I look at UCC filings and sometimes court cases and patent databases.

I gave a workshop at SLA in Denver titled Elusive U.S. Private Company
Information: Sources and Search Secrets Revealed and plan to give it again
in Seattle and perhaps sometime in between. I will appreciate hearing what
you learn to see what additional sources could be included. Thanks!

Subject: Good place for financial information on a company other than D&B's?
Importance: High

I would like to get some suggestions on where to check for good financial
info on companies other than D&B's. It is of course needed like yesterday.
Any help is appreciated.
