DIRECTOR, LAW AND LEGISLATIVE REFERENCE LIBRARY

POSITION VACANCY

 

            The Maine Legislative Council is seeking qualified
applicants for the position of Director of the Law and Legislative
Reference Library, a nonpartisan library within the legislative branch.
The library serves as the State's law library, legislative reference
bureau and serves the public by providing legal and governmental
information services under the overall direction of the Legislative
Council and the Council's Executive Director. This is a full-time,
senior management position of the Legislative Council. Primary
responsibilities include overall direction and management of the
library, administration of the budget, coordination of collection
development, supervision of a staff of 12 professional and support
staff, and working closely with legislators. A job description may be

MINIMUM DESIRED REQUIREMENTS

            Masters of Library Science degree or equivalent degree from
an ALA-accredited program, with formal study of law librarianship, with
at least 5 years of progressively responsible library experience, at
least 3 years of which should be in a library management capacity. A
law degree supplementing an MLS is desirable.

 

Strong leadership, management and communication skills are essential.
Experience in and knowledge of use of technology in library operations.
Ability to manage budgets and supervise professional and support staff.
Knowledge and understanding of legislative environment desirable.
Director must work in highly confidential and nonpartisan manner. Some
evenings/weekend work required depending on legislative schedules.

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

            Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications,
including generous state benefit package. Value of State-paid health and
dental insurance: $322.97 biweekly. Value of State's share of
retirement: 18.46% of employee's gross pay. EEO Employer.
