Hello all.
I have a friend who is a career coach and is going to be writing a book about careers (of course)?and wants to do a chapter on what inspired people to choose the profession they did. She asked me why I became a librarian. The cliff notes version is -When I was a kid, I never had the thought "I want to be a librarian when I grow up." I started working part time in the library while I was in?college and realized how much I enjoyed it and pursued it from there.
I have spoken with a few colleagues and their answers were similar in that it wasn't a goal as a child (when I was 5, I wanted to be an "animal doctor") but rather it came about because a part-time job in a library piqued their interest.
So I told my friend I would do an informal survey and see how others found their career in librarianship. So if you have a few minutes and are interested, please drop me a line.
Thanks.
Janne
