Steering Committee members, I hope that you will be able to assist me
with this request for volunteer assistance with the Advocacy, Inc. law
library in Austin, Texas. Advocacy, Inc. (AI) is a private non-profit
organization that is federally mandated to advocate for and protect the
legal and service rights of persons with disabilities. AI has also been
designated as the official Protection and Advocacy (P&A) for Texans with
disabilities. We provide legal services to persons with disabilities
free of charge and routinely take over 4,000 cases per year for
individuals who would otherwise not be able to afford legal services.
More details concerning our agency are located on the AI website at
www.advocacyinc.org <http://www.advocacyinc.org/>
Because we have a limited budget, we are not able to afford the services
of a law librarian even though we have a great need for the assistance
of a law librarian. Our central library for the agency in Austin has
never been properly organized and is in quite a state of disarray. We
have publications that are out of date but we are uncertain of whether
we should discard them as well as reference sources that are so
disorganized that they are basically useless to attorneys trying to
utilize them in a hurry.
Therefore, I was hoping to locate a volunteer(s) law librarian(s) who
might be willing to assist AI in organizing the central library and
reference materials. Since I am relatively new to Austin, I was not
certain which organization to approach with this volunteer request.
Please advise whether any of your members might be willing to take on
such a project and if not, other organizations that I might approach
regarding a volunteer law librarian request.
I appreciate your consideration of this request and look forward to
hearing from you.
