Thanks to all who responded to my query about assisting with fund
raising for acquisitions in academic law libraries. Specifically, we
were looking for ways to entice donors to fund endowments for library
acquisitions. The following ideas came from law-libbers:
1. Identify specific areas of the collection on which to spend the
donated funds, then use bookplates to identify materials purchased with
donated funds.
2. Compile a list of remaining naming opportunities-everything from
chairs to hallways. Give donors an opportunity to attach their name in
a permanent way to the collection they want to support.
3. Entice law firms to donate by adding materials to the collection
that they would like to use on a regular basis.
4. Plan recognition events to honor the donors-let them know in
advance that there will be an event (perhaps even an annual event) to
celebrate their contributions.
