When I looked at the about page on WOWIO, it looks like their business
model is to work with the publishers, paying compensation. WOWIO is
getting their revenue from ads that they sell.
The other reason that publishers will sometimes make their books
available online is when they have a series. Some publishers will put
the first part of a series out on the web so it hooks readers.
