Susan Yancey finds that though law books may be becoming obsolete, the law
librarian is still just as valuable.
At Houston law firm Vinson & Elkins, where she is director of firm
libraries, the newly remodeled library is modern, with ordered bookshelves
and clean, open spaces.
Yancey, a law librarian for more than three decades, helped design the new
space with both usability and technology in mind. Before joining Vinson &
Elkins, she worked at Tenneco's law library and at law firm Bracewell &
Giuliani (before the ex-New York mayor's name was on the firm).
She spoke with reporter Mary Flood about her job.
Q: Why did you decide to become a law librarian?
Q: In this age of online research, you have a lot of books here. Have they
stopped being important?
Q: Are other law libraries already getting a lot smaller?
Q: With instant case law, how have the jobs changed in the law library?
