Kids expect so much these days. When I went to library school I shared a pup
tent with a family of gypsies, ate hobo stew and air sandwiches, read my
dog-eared copies of the Law Library Journal by the light of a campfire - and
liked it! I didn't have no stinkin' map either although in hindsight one
might have helped considering the difficulty I often had finding my
classroom after a barefoot 20 mile uphill hike through the snow every
morning.

Subject: Off Topic request for D.C. librarians: Housing for library intern
at Smithsonian
Greetings,
One of my nieces is finishing her first year in the MLIS program at Rutgers
and has just been selected for a 5 week internship at the Smithsonian, from
May 22 to June 28. We're scrambling to find her short-term housing, near
public transport, preferably furnished. Any suggestions appreciated. I've
already offered her my old Boy Scout pup tent and a map of the D.C. park
system, but she's looking for something slightly more upscale.
